WNT Wraps Up the Community in Warmth - Comfort, Inside and Out

On Friday, 24th April 2026, the WIN (Woodlea Islamic Network) Neighbourly Table went a little beyond the usual. Alongside the hot, comforting meals from Ummah Thai Restaurant, we had something extra to share — new shirts and warm socks for anyone who needed them.

Between 35 and 40 neighbours joined us, and there was such a lovely feeling in the air. There's something about a hot meal that brings people together, but adding a shirt and a pair of cosy socks felt like wrapping the whole experience in a warm hug. Small things, perhaps — but small things matter, especially as the colder days settle in.

Voices from the Heart

One moment from the evening will stay with us for a long time. A young boy, eyes lighting up the moment he received his new shirt, didn't even wait to get home — he opened it right there and slipped it on over what he was wearing. The smile on his face said it all. A little while later, he made his way back through the crowd to find us — to say "thank you," and to ask if he could take another shirt for his friend too. A small moment, but a reminder of why we do this — the quiet magic that happens when a community looks after one another.

None of this would have been possible without our wonderful volunteers, who gave their time, energy, and heart to make the day what it was. From serving the food to sorting and handing out the shirts and socks, every pair of hands made a difference. We are so grateful for this community of kind, generous people who keep showing up, week after week.

The Neighbourly Table has always been about more than food. It's about connection, dignity, and looking out for one another. This evening reminded us — once again — just how much warmth a community can offer when it comes together.
